Netflix Launches Offline Viewing for Phones and Tablets

Netflix Launches Offline Viewing
1 December 2016

We've been asking and Netflix has listened: offline playback is finally here! The video streaming giant announced this week that users can now download select Netflix content to view while they're offline and away from a data connection. And you don't even have to wait until Christmas for this gift, because it's already begun!

Netflix Director of Product Innovation, Eddy Wu posted earlier this week that, "While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we've often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited". (Yes exactly! What he said!)

There's plenty of favorites already available in the app with a lot more content being added as we speak. So finding something to watch while you're offline won't be an issue.

They're beginning with their original series/content and adding more everyday. As of right now they already have Orange is The New Black, Narcos, and The Crown available to download and playback when you're offline.

The other great news about this launch is that this download feature is included in all plans for phones and tablets on both iOS and Android operating systems at no extra cost!! All you have to is make sure your Netflix app is updated with the latest version.

Just look for the "download" button on the details page of select movies and shows and click it to start. It's that simple. And if your device's storage space is a concern, you can also select from two different picture quality options to help you save space if need be. So you don't even have to delete all those pictures of the kids!

I checked my app this morning and it already shows a boatload of content available to download and view offline. It may vary by area but the bottom line is that there shouldn't be a problem finding something to keep you occupied while you're traveling or have some time to kill while away and offline. And there will be more coming!

So kudos to Netflix. With innovation that is totally changing the way we watch, I love that they are always finding new ways to keep us happy. Netflix and chill anyone?
