The Tax-Free Weekend is coming up for participating states and, just like last year, we've got you covered on all you need to know. This is a major money saver in our household and we look forward to it each year not just for back to school clothes and supplies but also work related items too since we have a home office.
Not every state participates in this glorious weekend (usually right before the Back to School frenzy begins) where parents can rejoice on paying zip in sales tax on qualifying purchases so we've rounded up all the info you'll need to plan your shopping days.
Participating states have varying dates - some one or two, some a whole week. Most states also have eligibility requirements on the items you're buying. Like you probably can't go buy a new car tax-free that weekend (although some states allow major appliances and generators so you could remodel your kitchen tax-free), but if you're planning to make any big ticket purchases like tablets, computers, laptops, etc, this is a great weekend to plan to buy them.
And the stores in your area usually plan for this weekend too and will even further your savings by offering some great sales on qualifying items too. So definitely keep a watch on your local circulars leading up to that weekend.
Plus you can still use coupons too so don't shy away from those coupon sites and circulars either because you can still definitely get dollars and cents off your items with a valid coupon in addition to paying zilch in sales tax.
If you're not sure whether or not your state participates in the Tax-Free Weekend, we've compiled a list below of the participating states and also some notable details on their stipulations.
And if you're state is one of the ones that does not participate in the Tax-Free Weekend, that doesn't mean you're out of luck. Thanks to the digital era we live in, many major online retailers will be offering tax-free online shopping that weekend too. Expect to see participation from giants like Amazon, Walmart and Target and plenty more.
So check below on your state's participation status in the Tax-Free Weekend and get all the details you'll need to save major moolah that weekend!
