Tips to Help You Save Even More at Walmart
If the number on a product's price tag ends with a 9, 7, or 5 - it's price could be going down very soon.
Why? Find out by reading below!
Walmart Price Tag Codes
In the United States, apart from labeling products with clearance codes and "Rollback" signs, Walmart pricing codes follow a secret system you can use to your advantage and get the best deal possible!
Regular-priced items usually end with a 7 or a 9, marked-down items usually end with a 5, and items are at their cheapest when they end with a 1 (and typically won't be marked down any further).
To help you visualize it:
- Regular-priced item: $_ _. _7 or $_ _. _9
- First markdown: $_ _. _ 5
- Final clearance: $_ _. _ 1
How do these secret price codes help you save? Say you want to buy something, but it's a little too expensive. If it's price ends with a 7, the price will drop another two times before it's taken off the shelf. If you go home, come back next week, and the price ends with a 1, now you know it's the best time to pick it up!
Note: this is the most common Walmart price code system, but it varies store-to-store.
Walmart Markdown Schedule 2017
How often Walmart marks down clearance changes from store-to-store. However, there are three criteria that can determine when a product's price will go down.
- How long Walmart has been selling the product
- How much of the product Walmart has in stock
- The last number on the product's price tag
If they have been selling the product for a few weeks or more and there are tons of it left on the shelf, that means they need to get rid of their inventory to make room for a potentially better-selling product. If the number on the product's price tag ends with a 9, 7, or 5 – the price should be going in the near future!
