Getting a great deal on Legos can be tricky, sometimes the best thing to do is try and be patient and wait for a sale, then stock up for birthdays and holidays so you're not stuck paying retail when you need them.
Legos aren't cheap either, I find sites like Amazon never have great sales when I need them. One thing to consider is buying a few sets on sale that you can use for birthdays, and if you don't you can save them for Christmas.
